Our Story…

A long time ago, in a hospital, NOT so far away…

Old Hospital Care Waves Radio, founded in 1951 as Grimsby Hospitals Broadcasting Service, has grown into a modern 24/7 station, serving Northern Lincolnshire and East Riding of Yorkshire. From our first record request show at Springfield Isolation Hospital to exclusive live Mariners’ home game coverage, our dedication remains unwavering.

Broadcasting from the Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital since 1983, we expanded to purpose-built studios in 1998, embraced online streaming, and extended to Goole District Hospital after Radio Medica’s closure in 2023. Rebranding as Care Waves Radio in 2025 marks an exciting new chapter. As the world’s 9th oldest hospital broadcaster, we proudly connect and comfort our community.
